Charlie Halsted was many things. A Nuclear Engineer, a friend, a cousin, an uncle, a brother, a son....and a mentor. Post retirement Charlie was doing just fine cruising through a peaceful existence, riding his road cycle, and spending his summers on Upper Saranac Lake in New York. But one day, through a series of unlikely events, two paths crossed resulting in a life changing experience. I'm here to tell you that story.
WHO WAS
charlIe HalsteD
In the New York summer of 1959, a man named Charles G. Halsted excitedly walked across the stage of his graduation ceremony. It was Ossining High School. He didn’t see the whole picture at this time, but after this day a beautiful path would unveil itself as Charles would go on to become part of our countries Nuclear Weapons Program.
Four years later in 1963, Charles walked the stage again, this time at the Maritime College of Fort Schuyler, graduating with a Nuclear Science degree. He would spend half the semester in the classroom, and the other half out to sea learning about the many involved tasks required by the large ships and the nuclear reactors that powered them. Charles adapted well to this class to hands on learning concept, as he was immediately able to put to practice all that he learned in a way that it would forever be locked in his memory........

In the way of Charles Halsted, we will carry on his legacy by inspiring others to experience a life worth living as we work to match local mentors with mentee's for the betterment of humanity!
